Health, Wealth & Worthiness: Thriving Through Women’s Life Transitions

January 07, 20264 min read

Much of women’s health focuses on what can be measured — cycles, timelines, careers, finances. What’s less visible is how these experiences shape a woman’s sense of worth along the way.

This week at Health University, we explore the connection between health, wealth, and worthiness with Nancy Griffin, a women’s wellness and financial empowerment advocate. Nancy asserts that self-worth can help women navigate life transitions and strengthen both personal resilience and community impact.

The Health–Wealth Link

A woman’s health has far-reaching effects on her career, finances, and overall life. Infertility, chronic conditions, and other medical events create interruptions in work schedules, limit opportunities for advancement, and adversely affect long-term financial stability.

Such health experiences can also carry emotional weight. Women must navigate the pressures of career responsibilities alongside family planning (including fertility treatments) and/or caregiving duties, all while managing societal expectations and personal identity shifts.

When we observe these patterns, it becomes clear that health and wealth are intertwined, shaping the personal and professional choices women make throughout their lives.

Self-Worth as a Pillar of Women’s Health

Confidence and resilience are central to women’s wellness. Life transitions, including fertility challenges, career changes, and family responsibilities, can test self-esteem and influence how women make health and life decisions. Cultivating self-worth is not selfish; it strengthens emotional resilience and empowers women to navigate setbacks with clarity and purpose.

  • Recognizing Achievements: By acknowledging accomplishments we reinforce confidence and motivation, keeping us grounded in our abilities.

  • Setting Boundaries: Clearly defining limits in work, family, and social commitments protects your time and energy. Boundaries allow you to focus on what truly matters, reduce stress, and prevent burnout, giving you space to care for yourself while still meeting responsibilities.

  • Prioritizing Self-Care: Daily habits that support physical, emotional, and mental well-being are essential for resilience. From sleep and exercise to mindfulness or personal hobbies, self-care restores balance, improves decision-making, and strengthens your capacity to support others without depleting yourself.

Valuing yourself also fosters leadership and mentorship. Women who trust their worth are better positioned to guide others, advocate for meaningful change, and contribute positively to their communities. Across all life stages, cultivating self-worth directly supports emotional strength, decision-making, and holistic well-being.

Self-Worth and Women’s Leadership

Developing a strong sense of self-worth is a crucial step for women as they navigate personal and professional transitions. Midlife, often referred to as the Age of Integrity, presents opportunities to reflect on accomplishments, embrace personal values, and consider how one’s experience can create influence beyond the individual.

Cultivating self-worth during this phase not only strengthens personal resilience but also positions women to recognize and seize leadership opportunities, mentor others, and leave a meaningful impact in their communities.

Key Actions and Practices:

  • Mentorship and Guidance: Actively mentor younger women by sharing lessons from career, health, and personal challenges. Provide guidance that helps others make informed decisions while building their confidence.

  • Storytelling for Influence: Use personal narratives to normalize struggles like fertility challenges, career setbacks, or midlife transitions. Demonstrate how obstacles can be transformed into growth opportunities.

  • Community Impact and Advocacy: Engage in advocacy and community initiatives to improve women’s health, leadership opportunities, and wellness resources. Encourage systemic change that benefits broader communities.

I am a women’s health expert with a specialty in working with women and couples navigating fertility challenges for more than 20 years. I look forward to helping you realize your dream of family. I’m also a mother, a sister, a friend. I live in beautiful Northern California, where the nature of Mt. Tamalpais, the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay are my backyard.

Traditional Chinese Medicine discovered me in 1978, when I was struggling with digestive complaints that flummoxed medical doctors. It wasn’t until I received my first acupuncture treatment and herbal prescription that I connected my medical condition to grief over loss of a loved one; that the stress of holding in such huge emotions was literally tying me up in knots, and I was finally able to heal.

Discovering the powerful links between the physical, the mental, the emotional, the spiritual, and the environmental shifted my understanding of health and wellness forever.

For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of learning and implementing Whole Systems Traditional Chinese Medicine to understand the root causes of health conditions and realize optimal health and well-being.

I am a strong believer in the importance of health education, for knowledge is power when you have the tools for effective self care.
